Myth #1: If You Wear Makeup Regularly You’ll Age Faster

Aside from the cleansing routine, makeup alone is not going to age you faster. Actually, many makeup products have a dual usage that nourish, protect or improve your skin while you’re wearing it. But if you don’t wash your face before bed, you’re not only leaving the makeup, but the toxins, oil and dirt your skin that was collected during the day – which is really what causes aging. So, the good news is, you can wear all the makeup you want without worry, as long as your remove it and thoroughly cleanse your face before going to bed.
Myth #2: Washing Your Face With Hot Water Will Open Up The Pores For A Better Clean
While steam will open your pores, you should not wash your face with hot water. Use a hot towel or let your pores open up in the shower. It doesn’t have to hurt to work.
A Luke warm water is an ideal temperature for washing your face. Though hot water might feel like you’re getting your face super clean, it could damage your skin by stripping it of its protective, natural barrier and drying it out. If the water you’re cleansing or bathing with leaves your skin red after rinsing, the water you used was too hot.
Myth #3: If It Burns, It Means It Working Really Good
If it burns, remove it immediately with a cool, damp cloth.
This is probably one of the biggest skin care misconceptions because it almost sounds believable, right? Alongside ‘no pain, no gain’. When it comes to skin care, a little tingling is normal with some products, but burning and stinging, however is not. This type of reaction usually indicate that you may have an allergy to an ingredient in the product or you have sensitive skin. Either way, if it burns, remove it right away. Myth #4: If You Have Oily Skin You Don’t Need To Moisturize

If you want to skip steps in your skin care regimen, try an oil cleanser like micellar water. It will leave your skin’s pH intact; therefore most skin types won’t need to apply additional product.
However, regardless your skin type – acne prone, oily, dehydrated or dry, you need to be using some kind of moisturizer to keep your skin nourished and balanced. The differences lie in the amount of moisturizer and type your skin needs. Whilst oily skin does requires the least amount of moisture, a moisturizer is still important for hydrating and nourishing the skin. We recommend choosing a lighter product such as a hydrating lotion or serum versus a heavy cream.
Myth #5: Rubbing Alcohol Is The Best Treatment to Kill Acne
Rubbing alcohol is far too irritating and drying for skin and especially for acne prone skin. Your skin will become so dry that it will overcompensate by producing more oil and clog up your pores.
While alcohol is a very common ingredient in many skin care products due to its drying abilities, the right type and concentration has been properly integrated. Thus, it is considered effective and safe on skin. But, rubbing alcohol is too highly concentrated and can can break down your skin’s barrier and strip it of the essential natural oils it needs. Alternatively, look for acne fighters containing benzoyl peroxide, witch hazel, tea tree oil or glycolic acid.
Myth #6: If You Don’t Wash Your Face You’ll Get Acne
The ever popular myth. You will not develop acne just because you don’t frequently wash your face or don’t wash it correctly. In order to get acne, you need to have a combination of four factors: bacteria, clogged pores from shedding skin cells, inflammation and sebum. Although, washing your face doesn’t help the problem, it is not the sole cause of acne.
